Kurt Busiek talks about George Pérez' Avengers run
On his twitter account, a fan asked @KurtBusiek about George Pérez exit on the Avengers (vol. 3, 1998) series. Busiek replies:
"It was a lot of work, and he didn’t want to keep going like that, on a monthly schedule."
"The in-office bet was that George would be the first of the Heroes Return artists to need a fill-in. He was the last."
"There were four issues he didn’t draw in that run, but he drew four extra-length issues, too. It was a tough schedule."
"He drew most of an issue in the hospital."
"Tom (Brevoort, Avengers' editor) would absolutely have brought in a guest artist to help out, but George said no, he’d do it."
"If I remember correctly, he didn't tell Marvel he was in the hospital until he’d drawn a batch of pages while in a hospital bed."
Pérez last issue was #34 (2000). A big battle against Count Nefaria with the Thunderbolts and Madame Mask involved.

Tony has been doing such a wonderful job on this editions, for all these years, that when I received his mail I knew I had to pass over the news to whoever enters this blog.
It's been a while (years!) since I logged in and it's been surprising to see the stats on this inactive account. I though that Facebook replaced the need for a blog like this, but also I believed this blog functioned as a great vault of George Pérez images, so I let it online. Aparently many people agree with it and it makes me happy.
Maybe I'll start posting again, maybe not. I'm still a hardcore Pérez fan and keep well aware of news relating to him. He has been retired for a few years not, but there's always new art coming from him through commissions and some variant covers (old commissions) that Marvel publishes, so there's always new material to see from our dear "uncle" George.
I hope you all are doing ok in the middle of this pandemic. Take care.
